28th May - ART THEMEN (sax) http://en.wikipedia.org
|
 |
Now concentrating
on a jazz career following his recent retirement as a consultant orthopaedic
surgeon, medicine's loss is definitely jazz's gain. Art has toured
the world as a member of Stan Tracey's various groups, and now leads
his own quartet. Originally influenced by Dexter Gordon and
Sonny Rollins before forging his unique sound. |

Sunday
1st June - RENATO D'AIELLO (sax) www.renatodaiello.com |
 |
A welcome return
booking for this Italian saxophonist who knocked everyone out with
his easy-going, swinging style. "D'Aiello's weighty, behind-the-beat
sound shows how a poetic imagination can rekindle a long-gone style
without nostalgia" John Fordham - The Guardian. "a master
improviser" Brian Blain - JazzUK. |

Sunday

A
virtuoso reeds player, Dan started off on the clarinet before moving
on to the tenor saxophone when he studied with master musician Dave
Liebman in the USA. He is one of the few musicians to take the sound
of the classical clarinet into the jazz world. "Superb rising

27th July - MICK HUTTON (steel-pan) www.mickhutton.com |
 |
Although
acknowledged to be one of the UK's finest bass-players, Mick has
now developed an amazing ability to play modern jazz standards on
the steel-pan - an instrument usually associated with Trinidad and
the calypso. Using soft mallets, he gets a marimba-like sound which
lends itself well to improvisation in a jazz context. |
